With Olympian Attending, the East Bay’s Signature Skating Rink is Now Open

SAN RAMON, CALIFORNIA – The holidays have officially hit the 925–at least if you want to measure them by ice skating, hot cocoa, and carol singers!

The Kristi Yamaguchi Holiday Ice Rink at City Center Bishop Ranch in San Ramon opened for the season, complete with a ribbon cutting led by Olympic gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi and a festive program of skating performances and carolers. The outdoor rink will operate daily through Jan 4.3

Opening night vibes

Opening night brought out families, figure-skating fans, and plenty of iPhones as Yamaguchi cut the ribbon and welcomed skaters onto the ice.

Yamaguchi has been the headliner for the popular rink (our favorite here at Bay Area Telegraph) for years now.

What to know if you go

The rink is set up in a big corner of the parking lot at City Center, making it an easy add-on to dinner or shopping.

Sessions run in timed blocks, skates are available to rent on site, and the schedule includes themed nights plus extras like a warm-up lounge and fire pits you can reserve during your session. Proceeds help support Yamaguchi’s Always Dream foundation, which promotes early childhood literacy — a nice local-good twist on a holiday outing.

More ice coming to the 925

If you’re building a winter skating circuit, Walnut Creek on Ice returns to Civic Park Nov 21 and runs through Jan 19 — another easy family outing right in downtown.
