Forget the 5k, City Center Has a Turkey Trot Even Your Toddler Can Do

San Ramon parents who love the idea of a Thanksgiving Turkey Trot but are pretty sure their preschooler would mutiny at the idea of a 5k, this one is for you.

Bishop Ranch is hosting a Turkey Trot that includes a “Tiny Turkey” fun run — a 0.05K trot that is literally designed for kids 5 and under. That is not a typo. It is shorter than the walk from your parking spot to Trader Joe’s.

A Turkey Trot Built Around City Center

The Bishop Ranch Turkey Trot is a Thanksgiving morning run and walk that starts right at City Center Bishop Ranch in San Ramon and loops around the nearby lakes and gardens, including Lake Annabel. The course is flat, on a mix of pavement and packed dirt, and is chip timed for runners who care about their time and vibes-only for those who do not.

There are two main 5k options: a “Fast Turkey” for people who will finish in under 40 minutes, and a more relaxed “Festive 5k” for everyone else. Costumes are encouraged, and organizers specifically suggest turkey suits and other Thanksgiving-themed outfits.

In true Bishop Ranch fashion, the start and finish area is set up right next to City Center, so you have easy access to coffee, bathrooms, and post-race brunch.

The Tiny Turkey: A 0.05K Your Toddler Can Actually Finish

The real star for young families is the Tiny Turkey .05K — a short loop around City Center for kids 5 and under. Race organizers describe it as a 50-yard dash that “everyone wins,” complete with cheering families and plenty of opportunities for photos.

Key details:

  • Open to children age 5 and under
  • Starts at 9:30 am on Thanksgiving morning
  • Runs around the City Center plaza, not out on busy streets
  • Registration is about $22, including fees, and every little runner gets to cross a real finish line

That distance is short enough that even a wobbly toddler in turkey leggings can handle it, but still feels like a “real race” to kids.
