Classic Disney Films Are Coming to the 925 — And Its a Huge Win for Orinda Theatre

ORINDA, CALIFORNIA – If you’ve ever dreamed of seeing your childhood favorite Disney films on the big screen–even if your childhood happened in the 1940s–you’re in for a treat.

This year, you’ll have a rare opportunity to see Disney’s earliest, most beloved films in their original glory–and in a theater that probably showed many of them when they originally came out.

It’s a huge win for Lamorinda–not just a big deal for Disney fans.

According to the theater’s event listing, Orinda Theatre says it has “secured an extraordinary partnership” to host the Disney Restorations Series, with monthly screenings planned for a full year.

The kickoff film is Disney’s 1950 animated classic “Cinderella,” scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026 at 1:00 p.m.

Showing original Disney films in a movie theatre is a challenging thing to do, apparently. The original films are being meticulously restored, which is challenging archival work.

Now that they’re ready, Disney has selected theaters to show them. And apparently our own local art deco gem made the cut!

Orinda Theatre’s listing says the series runs the first Saturday of each month throughout 2026, but additional titles have not yet been posted on the theater’s Disney Events page.

“Many of these cinematic gems have been absent from theaters for years, making this year-long showcase a groundbreaking event for Northern California, with numerous premiere presentations of these restored masterpieces,” the theatre said in an email.
