LAFAYETTE, CALIFORNIA – For many locals in Lamorinda, the Lafayette reservoir feels like a constant presence in our lives.
You walk its paths in all seasons, gather there for community events, perhaps fret over the changes to the iconic tower. Maybe even fish.
It’s easy to get used to the reservoir’s stunning visuals. But one local photographer captured them in a new light–and these are the best photos of the Reservoir we’ve ever seen.
Robert Weede shared these stunning photos with us.

Writing about his project, Weede told the Bay Area Telegraph “Many of us in the Bay Area cherish spending time at the Lafayette Reservoir. For me, this connection has spanned five decades. My earliest memories include fishing for bluegill with my best childhood friend on Saturday mornings.
As I grew older, I joined my high school cross country team running the lakeside nature trail, and later in life, I found joy hiking the rim trail with family and friends. Now, retired, I experience it at a more peaceful pace. Each stage of life has deepened my appreciation for this remarkable place.”

In Weede’s words, “My intention is to create a portfolio that not only shows its calming, magical natural beauty but also inspires others to value and protect what we share. With the iconic water tower scheduled for seismic upgrades later in 2026, I felt a special urgency to document the scenic perspectives that have been enjoyed by generations for the past century. After this year, when the tower is shortened, some of these views will likely be gone forever, making this moment especially meaningful to record.”
