LAFAYETTE, CALIFORNIA – Lafayette is getting ready for a big Earth Day celebration this weekend as Sustainable Lafayette brings its annual Earth Day Festival back to downtown. The free event is scheduled for Sunday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lafayette Plaza.
According to Sustainable Lafayette and the City of Lafayette’s event calendar, this year’s festival is the 19th annual edition of the community gathering, which is set to feature educational and interactive exhibits along with a long list of family-friendly activities.

Visitors can expect kids activities, a petting zoo, face painting, arts and crafts, free bike repairs, and booths from eco-focused groups and businesses.
The city event listing also says there will be collection stations for a range of hard-to-recycle items, including used shoes, e-waste, contact lenses and packaging, razors and blades, trigger sprayer bottles, corks, batteries, and empty Toms of Maine containers.
That mix of entertainment and practical drop-off opportunities makes this both a fun and practical choice for the weekend.
It is also designed as a hands-on way for residents to connect with local sustainability efforts and learn small ways to reduce waste at home. Sustainable Lafayette describes the event as a place where attendees can learn how to help the planet while enjoying a family-friendly afternoon in the heart of town.
The festival is part of a broader wave of Earth Day programming happening around Contra Costa County and across the Bay Area this month, but Lafayette’s event stands out as a downtown, community-centered gathering with a strong local volunteer and environmental focus.
