A Big-Name San Ramon Retail Store Has Quietly Closed

A major athletic retailer has quietly closed its San Ramon store.

Nike, which opened at City Center Bishop Ranch in early 2022, is no longer operating at the San Ramon shopping, dining and entertainment center. The store was located at 6000 Bollinger Canyon Road, Suite 1400, in the same open-air complex that includes THE LOT, Equinox, Slanted Door, LB Steak, Madewell, Philz Coffee and other well-known tenants.

The closure appears to have happened without a major public announcement. Nike’s own store page for the San Ramon location now lists the store as closed, with hours shown as closed every day of the week.

The San Ramon location was previously known as Nike by San Ramon. When it opened, it was not exactly a typical Nike store. The concept was described as a smaller, community-focused Nike location with a more experimental, service-oriented feel.

At the time, Nike described the store as a lab-like space where the company could test and evolve new services, experiences and offerings. The store carried shoes and athletic apparel, but it was also designed to connect shoppers with Nike’s digital services and local fitness culture.

For City Center, Nike was a significant name. It gave the San Ramon complex another recognizable national retail brand at a time when City Center was continuing to build out its identity as a polished East Bay destination for shopping, dining, fitness and events.

The former Nike space will not stay empty for long. City Center Bishop Ranch recently announced that lululemon will open a one-year pop-up in the former Nike location this June. The new lululemon store is expected to take over the 5,448-square-foot space and focus on performance apparel, footwear and accessories for yoga, running and training.

That means San Ramon shoppers are not losing athletic apparel altogether. But they are losing a notable Nike presence that had been part of City Center for a little over four years.

City Center Bishop Ranch remains one of San Ramon’s most visible gathering places, and the center has been adding new names this summer. In addition to lululemon, Rico Rico Taco and Lil Sweet Treat are also on the way.
