Bed Bath & Beyond Is Back in Walnut Creek — Sort Of

Walnut Creek shoppers can once again walk into a physical store bearing the Bed Bath & Beyond name.

There is just one fairly important catch: this is not the sprawling, standalone Bed Bath & Beyond that shoppers may remember.

Instead, Bed Bath & Beyond has moved into The Container Store at Plaza Escuela, located at 1100 Locust Street in downtown Walnut Creek. The existing store is being transformed into a combined “The Container Store + Bed Bath & Beyond” location, with merchandise from both retailers sold under one roof.

The Bed Bath & Beyond name and products have now begun appearing at the store, making Walnut Creek one of 12 California communities selected for the unusual retail comeback.

The Walnut Creek location is still fundamentally The Container Store. It continues to sell storage bins, closet systems, shelving, kitchen organizers and the like.

The difference is that Bed Bath & Beyond products are being added throughout the store, expanding its selection beyond organization products.

The new format is expected to include bedding, towels, bath accessories, kitchen merchandise, entertaining products and other household essentials traditionally associated with Bed Bath & Beyond. The combined stores also retain The Container Store’s custom-closet design, installation and in-home organization services.

The original Bed Bath & Beyond filed for bankruptcy in 2023 and closed all of its remaining U.S. stores. The new store-within-a-store concept is the plan for bringing the brand back, even if the cavernous standalone stores probably never return.

There’s even a fun promotion echoing the original brand. Through July 13, shoppers can bring an old Bed Bath & Beyond coupon to participating combined stores, including coupons that are expired, faded or several years old. The company says the coupons will be honored during the promotion and entered into a national sweepstakes.

So if you’ve had one in a drawer for years, now’s the time to dust it off and save perhaps 20%.

The combined Walnut Creek store is located inside Plaza Escuela at 1100 Locust Street, near the downtown movie theater, restaurants and shops.

Current posted hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

For locals, it’s a bit of nostalgia, and also a good excuse to replace your duvet cover.
