WALNUT CREEK, CALIFORNIA — A well-used section of the Iron Horse Regional Trail through downtown Walnut Creek is set to close from Monday, October 5, through Monday, October 12, 2026, according to the East Bay Regional Park District’s trail notice.
The affected stretch runs from Mt. Diablo Boulevard to Civic Park. The Park District says the closure will allow PG&E to carry out vegetation management and “wildlife enhancement work.” It has not posted a more detailed description of that work or a designated detour in its public notice.
People who use the trail to walk, run or ride through downtown should plan on a break in the route and follow signs at the work area. Check the Park District’s alerts and closures page before heading out, particularly if the trail is part of a commute or a longer ride.
The Iron Horse links Walnut Creek with communities to the north and south, connecting neighborhoods, businesses, parks and public transit. Civic Park is one of the trail’s access points in the city.
Another Iron Horse closure also begins October 5, but it is a separate project: Contra Costa County plans repairs to the Robert I. Schroder pedestrian bridge over Treat Boulevard, with the bridge section expected to remain closed through December 31, barring unforeseen circumstances. The Walnut Creek closure between Mt. Diablo Boulevard and Civic Park is currently scheduled only through October 12.
