Major Asian Grocery Chain Is Closing One of Its Pleasanton Stores

PLEASANTON, CALIFORNIA – Pleasanton is losing one of its two 99 Ranch Market stores — but shoppers will still have another location in town.

The Asian supermarket chain plans to permanently close its store at 4299 Rosewood Drive in the Rose Pavilion shopping center on December 5, 2026, according to the Pleasanton Weekly, which confirmed the decision with the company.

The closure affects 54 employees, the Weekly reported, citing a state Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN, filing.

Which store is closing?

The affected supermarket is the Rosewood Drive location near Santa Rita Road.

It opened in April 2010 in a former Levitz Furniture space, according to the Weekly. That means the closure will end a run of more than 16 years at Rose Pavilion.

For customers who shop at the other Pleasanton location, there is a different outlook: the company’s Pacific Pearl supermarket on Stoneridge Drive will remain open, as will its Dublin store.

Where shoppers can go instead

99 Ranch’s website lists the other Pleasanton supermarket at 2701 Stoneridge Drive, in the Pacific Pearl shopping center. Its Dublin store is at 7333 Regional Street.

The closure comes during a period of change for Asian grocery shopping in the Tri-Valley. Earlier this year, H Mart opened at 7884 Dublin Boulevard, adding another supermarket and food hall to the area’s options.

We covered that opening in March, when the new market drew long lines and considerable attention from East Bay shoppers.

For Rosewood Drive customers after the scheduled December 5 closure, continuing to shop at 99 Ranch will mean visiting another location.

We reported on the crowds that greeted H Mart’s Dublin opening, including its grocery selection and food hall. For another look at the East Bay’s changing grocery scene, read our coverage of the Osaka Marketplace project in Pleasant Hill.

  1. The newer 99 Ranch is about 4 blocks away. Ranch 99 built the new one to grab the space away from another Chinese grocery chain – most customers shifted to the newer one – that mall has more eating options also … MegaMart (Korean) is going in the old Lucky’s across the freeway (one exit over) and as noted, H Mart opened in Dublin about 2 miles away. There are also at least 2 smaller Indian grocery stores. There is also a Safeway, Walmart and Whole Foods within 2 miles … (also TJ) …
