On Saturday evening, bizarre weather conditions meant that the East Bay was treated to a remarkable sight: a gigantic double rainbow that fully encircled the town of Walnut Creek, framing Mount Diablo beautifully under rainy clouds.

The Bay Area Telegraph was there to capture it. From a vantage point above the town of Lafayette, we captured this double rainbow shining down on Highway 24.
In our photos, both parts of the rainbow are visible. This is one of the most vibrant and saturated colorful rainbows we’ve ever seen.

It’s especially beautiful to see the rainbow over the green grass of our East Bay hills, which spend most of the year in a much duller shade of brown. The spring rains bring beautiful rainbows but also grass and soon, wildflowers!

In one of our close-up shots, the two arcs of the rainbow appear to emerge from right over the Olympic Boulevard area of Walnut Creek. The rainbows were so dramatic that people were stopping beside the highway to see them.
