A Beloved Lafayette Business Is Shutting Down (But There’s Good News)

In an emotional announcement, Hollie’s Homegrown shared both sad and exciting news with its loyal community. The beloved local store, known for its homegrown products, will be closing its doors on Sunday, June 16th.

This decision comes after months of negotiating lease terms that ultimately proved unsustainable due to a significant rent increase, the announcement says.

Challenges and Decision-Making:

Hollie Preston, the owner, explained the difficult decision in a heartfelt message. After being named Businessperson of the Year, she was optimistic about continuing in the current location. However, an unexpected and substantial rent hike made it impossible to stay, Hollie says.

Despite the store’s profitability, the increase in rent, driven by an unrelenting trend in commercial property costs in Lafayette and beyond, led Hollie to conclude that it was more prudent to close the store rather than risk financial instability.

A Bright Future:
In her message, Hollie also shared promising news about the future. She is currently negotiating to purchase a new retail location in Lafayette, with hopes to open the new store by Spring 2025. This move aims to secure the future of Hollie’s Homegrown, providing a space to host more classes, tea parties, and events while continuing to offer their cherished handmade products.

Supporting Hollie’s Homegrown:
During this transition, Hollie encourages the community to support the business through several avenues:

  1. Online Shopping: Customers can continue to purchase their favorite Hollie’s Homegrown items online at hollieshomegrown.com, with free delivery for Lamorinda customers.
  2. Social Media: Following Hollie’s Homegrown on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook will provide updates and keep the community connected.
  3. Holiday Pop-Up: Plans are underway for a Lafayette holiday-faire “pop-up” location from October to December 2024, providing an interim shopping experience for the community.

Hollie expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support and enthusiasm from customers, staff, and local makers. She remains committed to proving that a successful retail business can thrive based on local artisans and producers. Despite the pain of closing this chapter, she is excited about the future and the next phase of Hollie’s Homegrown.

Stay tuned for more updates as Hollie navigates this exciting transition and prepares to reopen in a new and improved space.
