Locals love Pleasant Hill’s new Cuban restaurant. One reviewer from Concord, Dan B., praised the restaurant for its solid Cuban menu and described the food as “super tasty.” Bel E. from Antioch also recommended the establishment, calling it a “wonderful dinner” and noting the friendliness of the staff.

It’s great to see more cuisines represented in Pleasant Hill. I haven’t tried a lot of Cuban food, so this place looks really great. As a note for busy parents, they also offer Doordash delivery.

  1. I am from the East Coast, 1st generation American, Im half Cuban and half Salvadorian. I have eaten and have cooked traditional Cuban food all my life.

It’s my understanding that the owners and chefs may come from a similar demographic so I was surprised that I wasn’t pleased when I first tried the black beans and rice. This is something you must have locked down in a Traditionally Authentic Cuban Restaurant.

Unfortunately the only thing I have enjoyed eating thus far that tastes authentic are the plátanos maduros, Yuca frito with mojo, and the guava pastelitos.

The rice is flavorful, but is not traditionally made with our dishes. White rice is typically expected. The black beans do not taste like authentic Cuban black beans. It tastes like a version of Cuban black beans with a Chef’s twist. Not much different than the other “Cuban” restaurant that I think is in or was in Walnut Creek.

That all being said the food tastes good, just not like traditional Cuban tastes I have come to expect from Cuban owned restaurants.

The only Cuban Restaurant I have come across that was truly authentic traditional Cuban food in the last 18 yrs living in Northern CA was in SJ ; Havana Cuba which now is no longer on Race street and has pared down to a food court restaurant:( So sad.

That all being said I am disappointed as I was hoping to have a local truly traditional Cuban restaurant to visit regularly not a version of traditional Cuban food. It’s what I’ve come to expect in California which has been sad for me. When I go back east, I always make sure to visit my favorite Cuban Restaurants. But don’t get me started on the pizza over here !
