6 Places to Get Jewish High Holiday Food in the Bay Area (2024)

The New Year is almost here!

No, not the secular one–that’s still months away. But the Jewish New Year of Rosh Hashanah, and the Jewish High Holidays more generally, are coming up in October.

Whether you’re Jewish and celebrate the holidays, or you just appreciate a good pastrami sandwich or bowl of Matzo ball soup, we’ve got you covered!

Here are 6 great places to get Rosh Hashanah food (or bagels to break the Yom Kippur fast) here in the Bay Area.

1. Wise Sons Jewish Deli (San Francisco)

Wise Sons Matzo ball soup

Wise Sons has a holiday menu featuring roasted brisket, apricot-braised chicken, carrots tzimmes, and potatoes.

They also offer challah, matzo balls, and latkes. A complete dinner for four costs $110, with delivery available starting at $26. Orders must be placed by 9 a.m. two days before pick-up, available at multiple locations.

Wise Sons’ soup isn’t as good as the soup at Loveski (below) but their brisket is top notch. Add on additional items like chopped liver for the full East Coast deli experience.

2. Saul’s Restaurant & Delicatessen (Berkeley)

Saul’s offers both dine-in reservations and takeout options. The menu includes challah, soups, kugel, honey cake, apple cake, roasted chicken, and more. Orders can be placed online, with pick-up scheduled from October 1st through October 4th.

3. One Market (San Francisco)

4. Canela (San Francisco)

Canela features a four-course Rosh Hashanah menu, available from October 1st through October 4th, including Spanish Artichoke Flower, Mixed Mushroom Soup, and Caramelized Apple Tart. Both dine-in and takeout options are offered. Book here.

5. Loveski Deli (Napa)

Loveski Deli offers an ideal option for breaking the fast on Yom Kippur with their “Little” or “Lotta” Loveski spreads. These bagel spreads feature a variety of farm-fresh veggies, smoked salmon, and toppings, perfect for sharing with up to 18 guests.

Choose from different bagel flavors and enjoy a fresh and convenient meal to mark the end of Yom Kippur.

6. Boichik Bagels (Berkeley)

Boichik Bagels in Berkeley is another great option for Rosh Hashanah breakfast or a break-fast meal after Yom Kippur.

Known for their New York-style bagels, Boichik offers a range of bagels, schmears, and smoked fish options that are perfect for a gathering with family and friends. Their bagels are beloved by locals and are a great way to start or end the holiday celebrations.

These Bay Area spots offer a variety of delicious meals for those observing Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Be sure to place your orders early, as availability may be limited.
