Mona’s Burgers Is Getting a Sister Restaurant; Here’s Where And When it Opens

Downtown Martinez, California will soon welcome a new addition to its food scene: Yowza Burgers. The restaurant, set to open at 915 Main Street, is the latest project from Franz Aragon, the entrepreneur behind popular Walnut Creek, California restaurant Mona’s Burgers and Fries.

Mona’s is a popular, casual spot at the Palo Verdes shopping center–right across from the Bay Area Telegraph’s HQ! Yowza will be its sister restaurant.

Aragon’s decision to bring Yowza to Martinez was influenced by his personal connection to the area. “We like the city of Martinez, my wife and I have really good friends there and we regularly go to the town… we thought it could use a new burger joint” he told What Now San Francisco.

Unlike the larger footprint of Mona’s Burgers, Yowza Burgers will occupy a smaller space, offering table service, counter service, and takeout. Aragon described the new spot as a gourmet-focused burger joint that will also feature sandwiches, salads, beer, and wine.

Although the menu will be more concise, Aragon plans to take it up a notch from his previous ventures, calling the food “better” than what is served at Mona’s.

Yowza’s location places it in the heart of Martinez’s dining and wine district. It replaces Legal Grounds coffee, which had a fantastic name, referencing the nearby courthouse.

The restaurant is on track to open during the first week of March 2025, bringing a fresh take on the classic burger to Martinez.
