Locals Are Ecstatic as Half-Century Old Meadowlark Dairy Announces a 2nd Location; Here’s When and Where

Meadowlark Dairy, an iconic multigenerational restaurant located in Pleasanton, California, is opening a new location.

That’s the exciting news that greeted ice cream fans in the 925 as they entered the new year.

For over 50 years, Meadowlark has served the local community. This iconic dairy is known for its unique drive-through model: you pull up in your car, wait in a (usually very long) line, place your order from a limited menu of ice cream or a larger menu of milk and other dairy items, and a staff member—usually a local teenager—brings it to your window.

You can also walk up to Meadowlark, which features a quirky but beautiful string of umbrellas suspended on wires above its entrance.

Everything about Meadowlark is old-school—they don’t have toppings, the flavors are simple (like vanilla, chocolate, and pineapple), and the prices are very reasonable by Bay Area ice cream standards.

That simplicity has made it extremely popular! Especially on summer days, the line can snake around the corner, making it challenging to even get your ice cream.

The owners of Meadowlark—and especially the customers—reportedly realized this was less than ideal. That’s what drove the decision to open a new location. They wanted to increase capacity so people had another option to get their ice cream without waiting in a massive traffic jam.

So, where will the new location be? The new location in Livermore will open at 2287 2nd St. and is expected to launch by April 2025.

Unlike the original Pleasanton location, it will be walk-in only, with no drive-through.

We’re excited for any new opportunity to get ice cream in the 925! We’ll follow the story and let you know as soon as we have a firm opening date. You can bet we’ll be stopping by to review the new location.
