Locals Are Shocked as Popular East Bay Steakhouse Announces Sudden, Permanent Closure

SAN RAMON, CALIFORNIA — LB Steak has announced that its San Ramon restaurant at City Center Bishop Ranch will permanently close after service on Monday, June 22.

The surprise announcement was shared on the restaurant’s Instagram account, thanking diners, employees and community members who supported the upscale steakhouse during its time in San Ramon.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that our LB Steak restaurants will be closing,” the post said.

The announcement lists LB Steak Bishop Ranch’s final day as June 22, while the Santana Row location in San Jose is scheduled to close June 29.

LB Steak opened at City Center Bishop Ranch in May 2021, bringing Prime Angus steaks, Japanese Wagyu, seafood, cocktails and a large wine program to the shopping center at 6000 Bollinger Canyon Road.

The restaurant was led by acclaimed chef Roland Passot and operated by Vine Hospitality, the Bay Area group behind Left Bank Brasserie, Meso Modern Mediterranean and other restaurants.

The San Ramon restaurant became a popular choice for birthday dinners, anniversaries, business meals and pre-concert dining before City Center’s summer jazz events. LB Steak’s own website still lists the Bishop Ranch location and its regular service hours, though the closure announcement makes clear those operations are ending.

Local reaction was immediate. Commenters called the closure “heartbreaking,” with one person writing that LB Steak had been their “favorite forever.” Another said the Santana Row location had become “one of the anchors of the area.”

The restaurant’s message offered no explanation for the closures. Instead, it focused on gratitude for its staff and customers, saying the team had helped create “countless memorable evenings around the table.”

LB Steak’s departure will leave another prominent vacancy at City Center Bishop Ranch, which still lists a wide range of dining tenants including Delarosa, Slanted Door, Bamboo Sushi, Fieldwork Brewing, Meyhouse, Salt & Straw and Marugame Udon.
