WALNUT CREEK, CALIFORNIA – Just a few days ago, we tried Square Pie Guys pizza for the first time via their pop-up at Local Kitchens in Lafayette, California.
We were pleasantly surprised by the pizza. Sometimes, square pizza and deep dish in general can be overly dry and a little boring.
Square Pie Guys pizzas were neither of these things. It feels like eating a big hunk of focaccia bread topped with primo toppings, and the crispy, cheesy crust really stood out. Square Pie Guys calls it “Detroit Style.”
We were just raving about the pizza via Local Kitchens, but now there’s even better news – Square Pie Guys is officially opening a permanent location in Walnut Creek, California!
It’s almost like they read our minds—or read our review. Although we know they’ve probably had this in the works for a while, it’s exciting to discover a delicious new food and then have it immediately open nearby!
Square Pie Guys’ new store, rumor has it, will be located at 191 Pringle Ave near the Residence Inn. We spoke to a staff member at the San Francisco Store who confirmed that Walnut Creek plans were likely in the works, but didn’t give more details on an opening date.
In addition to pizza, you’ll have access to a much larger menu than what’s available at the Local Kitchens pop-up. Other items on the menu include salads, several types of wings, and more.
There’s also a variety of dipping sauces, although not quite as many as the 17 salsas at nearby Puesto!
It’s an exciting new addition to the Walnut Creek food scene, particularly its growing pizza scene. Walnut Creek already has one of the best New York pizza places in the Bay Area with Slice House from Tony Gemignani.
There’s also Gusto Mio Focaccia, which just opened recently. And of course, there’s the world-famous Prego pizza at Skipolini’s, which is rumored to immediately put pregnant people into labor.
Square Pie Guys rounds out—or rather, squares out—the lineup with a great deep-dish option. Now, if Zachary’s just opens a location in Walnut Creek, we’ll be set!
