A brand-new, under-the-radar breakfast and brunch spot has opened in Pleasant Hill, California, and locals are loving it.
The new place has received far less PR and initial buzz than other popular and highly anticipated spots like Crumbs in Pleasant Hill and The Breakfast Club in Lafayette.
Locals who have visited say the new place has an upscale interior, the food is delicious, and wait times are minimal.
The new Pleasant Hill restaurant is called The Royale. We stopped by to take a look, though we haven’t had a chance to eat there yet.
The Royale is located just across the street from downtown Pleasant Hill, near where the old Boston Market used to be.
Opening in early 2025, the Royale serves contemporary American cuisine with an elegant twist. The menu also incorporates Thai and other Asian flavors, giving the dishes a unique fusion-style appeal.
On the menu, you’ll find familiar breakfast staples like huevos rancheros, chicken and waffles, and omelets. But you’ll also see more unique items like a smoked salmon tartine, étouffée (a classic Cajun dish with Dungeness crab and crawfish), and even a Tom Yum paella, which features galangal, chili paste, and other Thai ingredients.
Other offerings include French toast, buttermilk pancakes, eggs Benedict, and more. There’s also a limited kids’ menu and a selection of burgers.
Royale also places a strong emphasis on cocktails. Drinks like The Excalibur feature butter-washed whiskey and tobacco bitters, while Garden of Versailles includes tequila, pear liqueur, and other refined ingredients.
The restaurant’s interior has a classy feel, and locals report that the food is excellent with little to no wait.
One thing to keep in mind—this is a pricey breakfast spot, much like others in the Bay Area. Basic egg dishes will run around $20, while fancier options like braised short rib and various fried rice dishes can go up to $39.
That said, locals seem to love Royale and have shared very positive feedback. We’re glad to see it become part of the community, and we look forward to trying and reviewing it soon.
