LAFAYETTE, CALIFORNIA – If you’ve driven down Mount Diablo Blvd. in Lafayette, California, near Headlands Brewery and the new Horn Barbecue, you might have seen a sign for Holistika Conscious Café.
If you look carefully at the sign, you’ll notice a mushroom in the logo. We’ll get to that.
First, though, here are the basics. Holistika Café is a new “conscious café” open to the public and associated with the Holistika Conscious Creator’s Collective.
The café has a limited menu focused on wellness-related drinks. Matcha features prominently, along with plant-based milk alternatives.
There’s a wide range of adaptogenic drinks, too, as well as chai tea and cacao drinks.

There are also medicinal mushroom-based drinks on the menu. However, in this case, they don’t seem to be the kind of “medicinal mushrooms” you might be thinking of.
If that’s the experience you’re looking for, though, it does appear to be available through the collective that opened the café.
Looking through their website, they offer a variety of spiritual and traditional wellness practices, from yoga to sound healing.
They also work with someone they call a “medicine muse,” who appears to offer psychedelic therapy at the Lafayette location.
Again, if you simply stop by Holistika Café, the mushrooms on the menu will be decidedly non-magic.
But for those looking to deepen their consciousness beyond what’s afforded by a simple matcha latte or chai tea, the Holistika Conscious Creators Collective—for committed members, anyway—does appear to offer other opportunities to “expand your consciousness.”
Michael Pollan would be proud. The mushroom in the collective’s logo clearly isn’t there by accident…
