Another Fire at the Martinez Refinery

Here we go again! After a massive blaze that burned for days at the Martinez Refining Company’s plant in Martinez, California earlier this year, we’re now hearing reports of another fire at the same location.

The good news is that this one was small–not the giant plume of smoke that unfurled over the refinery earlier in the year.

The bad news is that a worker was reportedly injured in the blaze.

The Martinez Refining Company says that the fire occurred when a contract worker was refueling a portable air compressor. The fire was not related to the refinery’s “process units”, the parts that actually refine petroleum products.

So no alarms or evacuation orders this time, thankfully. We hope that the injured worker is okay and that we can stop reporting on fires at the refinery soon.
