It can be incredibly hard to find good hummus and other Middle Eastern items in the 925! The best we’ve found is at a largely unmarked food truck in Concord, California.
But if you’re hosting an event and you need fantastic hummus, shawarma, and other Israeli or Middle Eastern specialties, there’s another option.

Hummus Bodega is located in the Richmond District in San Francisco. That’s quite a schlep to get hummus and shawarma! But it turns out that Hummus Bodega offers a catering option with delivery all over the Bay Area, including the East Bay, for larger events. Their food is all Kosher.

I recently got to try their food during an event last week.
They served giant steam trays of delicious chicken shawarma and huge bowls of hummus, including multiple varieties with whole chickpeas as well as smoother ones. Their pita was fantastic–nicely chewy and incredibly fresh, with an ideal pocket for filling with hummus and other sides.

They also had amazing falafel—some of the best that I’ve had in the Bay Area. By the way, I also like Yalla Falafel at Local Kitchens, a pop-up that’s still open right now. Their Persian kabab was great too!

One of the nicest things about the food from Hummus Bodega were the variety of sides. These include common ones like tahini sauce as well as less common, but very iconic, options like amba sauce and “Funky Rice.”

I wish that Hummus Bodega would open a location here in the East Bay. Until then, if you’re hosting a big event and you want fantastic Middle Eastern Mediterranean food, you can check out their catering options. They do appear to offer delivery on certain days, or you can drive in and get the food yourself.
I might need to head into the city to try this place out in person, much as I have already driven 45 minutes or more to get amazing matzo ball soup up in Marin!
