WALNUT CREEK, CALIFORNIA – One of the East Bay’s most popular homegrown microbreweries is expanding in a big way.
Calicraft Brewery, which has its main taproom over in Shadelands in downtown Walnut Creek, California, has announced plans to open a giant rooftop bar in downtown Walnut Creek.
The bar will reportedly include 1,500 square feet of outdoor space, perched two stories above Mount Diablo and Main Street in the heart of the city.
Amazingly, the new bar will open atop Va de Vi, which is one of our readers’ most cherished restaurants in Walnut Creek. When we asked Bay Area Telegraph readers and other locals for their favorite restaurants in the 925, Va de Vi consistently came up.
Its new upstairs neighbor will also include 1,500 square feet of indoor space.
At this new downtown location, Calicraft will serve its signature beers, including favorites like Oaktown Brown Ale, Karl the Fog Hazy IPA, and more. The new location will also feature food. This will reportedly come from Calicraft’s new culinary director, Jeff Amber, who formerly worked at Chow restaurants.
Alongside the expansion into downtown Walnut Creek, Calicraft is also expanding its Shadelands taproom and beer garden. The Shadelands location has 50 picnic tables and covers 6,500 square feet. It’s a massive celebration of Bay Area microbrewing!
As for when Calicraft will open its downtown Walnut Creek location, it will probably take a while to build out such a large outdoor space.
The opening of the new location comes amid the opening of several other beer gardens in the 925. Headlands Brewery recently expanded to Walnut Creek by the Pleasant Hill BART station, and Canyon Club opened a new location in Danville.
