Molotov Attack at Pro-Israel Walk in Boulder Prompts Bay Area Jewish Group to Call for Vigilance

San Francisco, CA — The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) Bay Area has condemned a violent attack at the “Run For Their Lives Walk” in Boulder, Colorado, where demonstrators gathered in solidarity with Israeli hostages held for more than 600 days.

According to a statement released by JCRC, attackers threw gasoline and Molotov cocktails at participants, injuring at least five people. One of the victims is a cousin of a JCRC staff member and suffered serious burns. Authorities have not yet released further details about the suspects or the motive, but JCRC has labeled the incident a deliberate act of terror targeting peaceful Jewish demonstrators.

The Boulder attack follows a string of recent antisemitic incidents, including a shooting outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., and a firebombing at a Jewish governor’s residence during Passover.

JCRC Bay Area CEO Tyler Gregory called the attack part of an escalating pattern of extremist violence.

“This rise in extremist violence is deeply dangerous, and it is now more critical than ever that we speak with one voice against antisemitism and hateful rhetoric,” said Gregory. “Silence in the face of such acts only emboldens those who seek to divide and harm our communities.”

JCRC is urging Jewish communities across the Bay Area to remain vigilant and consider enhanced security measures at public events. The organization says it continues to work with civic partners to promote Jewish safety and inclusion.

The “Run For Their Lives Walk” is part of an international campaign to draw attention to the plight of hostages taken by Hamas during the October 2023 attack on Israel.
