Local Group Plans “NO KINGS” Protest in Walnut Creek on Trump’s Birthday, And Community Reacts
Walnut Creek, CA — A local political advocacy group, Indivisible ReSisters Contra Costa, is organizing a protest in Walnut Creek on Saturday, June 14, as part of a national day of action marking former President Donald Trump’s birthday.
The rally, titled “NO KINGS,” is one of more than 1,800 protests planned across the country in opposition to what organizers describe as Trump’s “demand for absolute rule.”
The Walnut Creek event will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Broadway Plaza, starting with a rally behind the Apple store. Activities include live protest music, public readings from the U.S. Constitution, and a symbolic group oath to uphold constitutional principles. A “honk and wave” demonstration will follow along Main Street, along with a march beginning in front of the Tesla store.
Organizers say the protest is a response to what they view as the president’s undermining of democratic norms, misuse of taxpayer funds, and policies that prioritize the wealthy while cutting public services.
Later that afternoon, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., additional “honk and wave” demonstrations will take place at two Iron Horse Regional Trail overpasses — one at Ygnacio Valley Road and Civic Drive, the other at Treat Boulevard and Jones Road.
Community Reacts
The upcoming protest has sparked a range of reactions from Walnut Creek residents and nearby neighborhoods, with comments reflecting a deep divide over the event and its message.
Some voiced strong support. Nancy T. of Sun Terrace encouraged turnout: “Speakers, etc. at [the] park. Hope to see you there to represent the 1st amendment. ‘When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes a duty.’” Lennie U. of Hidden Flame added, “Elon didn’t just send 2,000 National Guard and 800 Marines to Los Angeles over the objections of both the mayor and the governor…”
Others were skeptical or critical. Bernadette F. from Gloria Terrace commented simply, “Go Trump!” while Harold B. of Boyd called the rally “the kool aid scenario all over again,” suggesting it reflects a repeating pattern in history. Mary Beth M. from Hidden Lakes pushed back on the protest’s tone, writing, “New month, more hate? Spread more love ❤️ less hate ✌️.”
Some responses showed humor. David S. from W Side Downtown joked, “No Kings! Down with Denmark and the United Kingdom!”
