7 Great Brunch Places With Shaded, Outdoor Patios in the 925

A reader recently wrote to us here at the Bay Area Telegraph to ask about the best places for an outdoor brunch with a shaded patio.

Specifically, she wanted something festive enough for a celebration. Here in the upscale 925, brunch is often an elevated (and pricey) affair. So we had no trouble coming up with some ideas!

1. Sweet Maple (Walnut Creek)

Sweet Maple is a popular brunch eatery from San Francisco that has opened a Walnut Creek location, known for its famous Millionaire’s Bacon. Here’s my review.

The Walnut Creek spot features a quiet, tucked-away back patio, providing a peaceful and shaded setting to enjoy their elevated American brunch fare.

The atmosphere is modern yet cozy, and brunch-goers consistently praise the perfectly poached eggs and inventive “toastini” creations.

Address: 1523 Giammona Dr, Walnut Creek, CA 94596

2. The Hangout (Walnut Creek)

The Hangout is a vibrant breakfast and brunch restaurant offering California comfort food and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

It’s across from Rossmoor and boasts cute outdoor seating, making it perfect for al fresco brunch on cool mornings or evenings.

Diners say the portions are generous and the menu includes creative twists on brunch classics (like a crispy chicken benedict), alongside refreshing brunch cocktails.

Address: 1908 Tice Valley Blvd Ste A, Walnut Creek, CA 94595

3. Main Street Kitchen & Bar (Walnut Creek)

This one has been there forever!

Main Street Kitchen & Bar brings farm-to-table California cuisine to downtown Walnut Creek in a charming bistro setting. It offers a lovely sidewalk patio with umbrella-shaded tables, allowing guests to dine in comfort while enjoying the downtown vibe.

You’ve almost certainly walked by and see its tables and planters spilling out towards the street.

Locals love the friendly atmosphere and seasonal brunch menu – from indulgent brioche French toast to savory eggs Benedict – all served with a side of small-town charm.

Address: 1358 N. Main Street, Walnut Creek, CA 94596

4. Metro Lafayette (Lafayette)

Metro Lafayette is an upscale eatery renowned for its expansive garden patio – one of the largest in the East Bay – which is fully enclosed and shaded by mulberry trees and umbrellas.

The patio’s trellised vines and greenery create an oasis-like setting, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely weekend brunch. Metro serves seasonal California cuisine; patrons can savor everything from classic eggs Benedict to fresh salads in a refined yet relaxed environment.

Pro tip: it’s nicer on the inside than it looks from the exterior!

5. The Hideout Kitchen (Lafayette)

Tucked off Lafayette Circle, The Hideout Kitchen is a cozy, eclectic brunch spot with a “hidden” vibe. Its cute little patio is a highlight – offering a pleasant, shaded outdoor seating area that exudes character and comfort.

It’s in the former Cooperage spot, for longtime residents.

Address: 32 Lafayette Circle, Lafayette, CA 94549.

6. The Breakfast Club at Midtown (Lafayette)

The Breakfast Club has terrific (if expensive) American breakfast options, as well as fresh orange juice, right in downtown Lafayette.

I’ve sat at the flower-lined outdoor patio, and it’s a great spot for brunch. The side patio is more shaded than the front, FYI.

7. Sideboard Neighborhood Kitchen (Danville)

Sideboard in Danville is a quaint neighborhood kitchen and coffee bar housed in a converted historic home. It features abundant outdoor seating – much of it on the side and back patios of the house, under awnings and tree cover.

The result is a comfy, shaded patio where you can enjoy organic, handmade brunch dishes (from fluffy waffles to breakfast sandwiches) and artisan coffee. The vibe is cozy and casual, often with local dogs lazing under the tables, and the communal picnic tables foster a friendly, community feel.

Sideboard in Lafayette is a great option, too!

Address: 90 Railroad Ave, Danville, CA 94526sideboard.co.
