Below is the Instagram reel that first brought the incident to light.
What Happened
- Time & place: Around 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, inside Discovery Bay Marina.
- The pursuit: Witnesses say the ski boat chased the jet-ski for nearly 10 minutes, weaving through slips and narrowly missing multiple boats before the collision.
- Aftermath: The aggressor boat allegedly smashed into several moored vessels, then sped away. The damaged ski boat sank; the rider was treated for a sprained ankle.
Two Brothers Arrested
As of this weekend, there’s been a big break in the case.
Contra Costa County sheriff’s detectives arrested two brothers, both of Oakley, after video and witness statements identified them as operators of the runaway boat. Investigators say the craft was later found abandoned in Stockton.
Key charges (each man faces):
- Assault with a deadly weapon – 2 counts
- Criminal threats – 1 count
- Vandalism over $400 – 2 counts
Bail: $95,000 apiece. Both men were booked into Martinez Detention Facility early Thursday.
How a Marina Argument Turned Violent
Deputies believe the alleged boat-rage stemmed from a verbal dispute that escalated on the water. Video shows at least nine people aboard the Malibu shouting at bystanders before revving toward the jet-ski. The sheriff’s Marine Services Unit says alcohol “has not been ruled out.”
