Ditching Its Brand, Lafayette Gas Station Delights Locals With Cheap Fuel

LAFAYETTE, CALIFORNIA – The former Shell station at the corner of Stanley Boulevard and Pleasant Hill Road continues to delight locals.
Why would a gas station be delightful? Since ditching the Shell brand, Central Gas—as the gas station is now known—has dropped its prices by over one dollar per gallon.

After going their own way, the independent Central Gas has been able to offer what they say is still “top-tier gasoline” while keeping prices much lower than before.
On a recent visit, the Bay Area Telegraph observed that prices were around four dollars per gallon. Other nearby gas stations are charging over five dollars per gallon, per Gasbuddy.

That seems to have resulted in a big uptick in business at Central Gas. Whereas before, the gas station would serve a trickle of customers, there is now a continuous stream of vehicles pulling through.
Add to that the foot traffic once Acalanes High School is back in session—with high school kids buying soft drinks and candy—and it seems like Central Gas has made a great move both for itself and the community.
We just hope they don’t raise prices after they’ve hooked people on the new location!
