Disturbing Details Emerge in Fatal Pleasanton Shooting
Pleasanton, CA — Authorities have released new information in a deadly shooting that occurred on Friday, August 15, 2025, in a quiet Pleasanton neighborhood. It turns out the shooting death was allegedly a family argument gone badly wrong.
Lucas Chan, 28, has been arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail for the homicide of his 61-year-old father, Lance Chan.
Pleasanton Police responded to reports of gunfire around 9:40 p.m. near the 4600 block of Helpert Court. Officers arrived to find the victim with a gunshot wound and began providing medical aid. Lance Chan was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Preliminary witness statements suggest the shooting followed a verbal dispute between the father and son. Disturbingly, during a search of the home, police say they discovered suspicious items, prompting the response of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team. Investigators located and safely removed several improvised explosive devices.
Authorities also allegedly recovered multiple untraceable firearms, known as “ghost guns,” and a 3D printer believed to have been used in their manufacture. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has joined the investigation due to the involvement of explosives and illegal weapons manufacturing.
Police say there is no known threat to public safety at this time. Records show no prior incidents at the residence.

A correction was also issued by the police regarding the suspect’s age, which was initially reported as 29. He is 28 years old.
