Multiple Suspects Arrested After Armed Smash-and-Grab Burglary and Chase at Concord Mall, Police Say

Concord, CA — Seven people were arrested after an alleged smash-and-grab burglary at Sunvalley Shopping Center before dawn on Sunday, October 5. Concord Police say mall security reported a break-in at about 3:52 a.m., and officers arriving moments later saw suspects running out of the building.

According to police, four suspects jumped into a getaway car and led officers on a short pursuit that ended in a crash nearby. The driver ran but was found hiding in bushes and taken into custody; the three passengers were arrested at the scene of the crash. Three additional suspects who stayed at the mall were also detained. No injuries were reported in the burglary or the collision.

One of the suspects located at the mall was carrying a firearm that had been modified to function as an assault weapon, police said.

Six of the seven suspects are male juveniles from San Pablo and Richmond and were booked into Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall. The seventh suspect, identified as 18-year-old Marcos Ramirez-Castro of Richmond, was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility. Police said there are no outstanding suspects.

Charges and what comes next

Concord Police said the group faces multiple charges tied to the burglary and the pursuit. Formal charging decisions will come from the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

Recent context

The arrest comes amid heightened regional concern about organized retail theft, including last week’s high-profile smash-and-grab at Heller Jewelers in San Ramon, where police have since announced multiple arrests.

While separate incidents, both cases have intensified calls for prevention and swift accountability across East Bay shopping centers.

What we don’t know yet

Authorities have not released store names targeted inside the mall, the estimated value of losses, or detailed charging documents. We’ll update this story if additional details are made public by Concord Police or county prosecutors.
