But that’s why we have so many great local ice rinks that pop up this time of year. Gotta have some place to experience Winter recreation (aside from Tahoe, of course) amidst the Bay Area’s comparatively balmy weather!
One of the most cherished is Walnut Creek’s long-time ice rink in Civic Park.
Walnut Creek on Ice is lacing up for opening day on Friday, Nov. 21, bringing its festive outdoor rink back to Civic Park for the 2025–26 season. The rink will operate through Monday, Jan. 19. Organizers say this marks 20 years of winter skating in downtown Walnut Creek.
What’s new (and what’s back)
Along with open skate sessions under the lights, the rink is again pairing skating with a 90-foot “Frosty’s Summit” ice slide that’s marketed as the Bay Area’s only outdoor ice slide. Sessions are 90 minutes, and the operation is cashless this year, so plan to buy ahead online.

The rink sits at 1365 Civic Drive in Civic Park, an easy stroll from downtown restaurants and parking. Hours vary by day and event schedule, so check the calendar before you go; popular time slots can sell out.

Prices at a glance
General skating is listed at $20 per person (includes skate rental). The ice slide is also $20, with a combo option priced at $20 on non-holiday weekdays or $30 on weekends and holiday dates. Note that skating and slide tickets are separate time slots if you want to do both.
