Flipped Car Seen on Pleasant Hill Road Amid Ongoing Rains

LAFAYETTE, CALIFORNIA – Drivers on Pleasant Hill Road faced delays Thursday afternoon after a vehicle flipped onto its roof in the uphill lane, landing on the shoulder near the residential turnout around addresses 1484–1500.

The crash happened as steady morning rain continued to make East Bay roads slick and visibility poor. California Highway Patrol officers were already on scene when we passed by (the photographer was in the passenger seat–don’t worry!), with flares placed along the barrier to warn approaching traffic.

A silver vehicle was resting upside-down against the hillside, its rear bumper torn off and debris scattered across the wet pavement. A man standing nearby appeared to be speaking with officers, though it’s not yet clear whether he was the driver.

There did not appear to be injuries.

Light but persistent rain has been falling across Contra Costa County since early morning, and Pleasant Hill Road is known for its steep, winding sections and reduced traction during storms. No word yet on the specific cause of this crash.
