A popular downtown Walnut Creek bubble tea shop is about to pour its last cup — but boba fans are already getting some good news.
Mr. Green Bubble is closing its Walnut Creek shop
A printed sign on the door of Mr. Green Bubble on Locust Street announces that the Walnut Creek location will close for good this Sunday, November 16. The note, addressed to the “Mr. Green Bubble Family,” thanks customers for their love and support over the years and says the team is “deeply grateful” for the community.

The shop at 1539 Locust St opened in 2016, bringing one of the first dedicated boba cafes to downtown Walnut Creek and helping kick off the neighborhood’s now-busy bubble tea scene.

Known for its long menu of milk teas, smoothies, slushes, and snacks like popcorn chicken, Mr. Green Bubble became a go-to stop for teens after school, families on weekends, and anyone walking over from Broadway Plaza or the Lesher Center.
According to the sign, Sunday will be the shop’s final day in business in Walnut Creek. But there’s good news (read on below).

A new boba brand is already lined up: Ume Tea
While Mr. Green Bubble is leaving, the storefront is not going dark.
The same sign says that “Umetea” will “continue serving everyone at this location” soon. Ume Tea (sometimes styled UMe Tea) is a growing bubble tea chain that started in California and now has multiple Bay Area locations, including shops in Cupertino, Fremont, Pleasanton, and San Ramon.

The chain is known for creative milk teas, fruit teas, and dessert-style drinks like crème brûlée Thai tea and matcha lattes, plus snacks such as popcorn chicken and fries.
The sign does not list an exact opening date for Ume Tea in Walnut Creek, only noting that it will be “starting soon.” For now, the paper notice is the only public confirmation that Ume Tea is taking over the space.
Mr. Green Bubble is staying in the Bay Area
Fans who have a favorite drink at Mr. Green Bubble will not have to say goodbye to the brand entirely.
The closure notice points customers to Mr. Green Bubble’s other Bay Area locations in Union City, Menlo Park, San Mateo, and Oakland. The company’s website lists those same stores and notes that the brand was founded in Oakland in 2010 before expanding around the Bay Area and into Seattle.
For Walnut Creek regulars, it just means that their usual boba run will require a longer drive–or a brand switch!
