ORINDA, CALIFORNIA – He may not be the Grinch, but one alleged criminal in Orinda, California really did try to steal christmas.
According to Orinda Police, officers were called around 9:14 a.m. on Sunday, November 30, after a resident on Big Leaf Road reported that two packages had vanished from their front porch.
The homeowner happened to have a doorbell camera that clearly showed a man walking up to their porch, grabbing a package, and running off.

Neighbors had cameras, too. They caught images of the man’s car.
The Orinda Police were able to assemble all this evidence quickly, and determine a general description of the perp and suspect vehicle.
When they saw the vehicle and the man a short time later, they quickly swooped in and nabbed him. A search of the suspect’s car revealed the packages that went missing from the resident’s house, police say.
“The Orinda Police Department would like to thank residents for their assistance and support,” said Orinda Police Chief Anthony Rossi. “Surveillance video from homes helped my officers identify the suspect and his vehicle which ultimately led to his arrest.”
The Orinda police used the incident to highlight tips for staying safe over the holidays. They recommend scheduling package deliveries for when someone is home, and quickly taking boxes inside. No reason to tempt thieves!
The police also say to have packages delivered to your workplace or held at the post office during the holidays, which are a busy season for both Grinches and actual criminals alike.
And finally, the police say to let them know immediately if you notice anything suspicious–both at your house or a neighbor’s–if you live in Orinda, and to do the same with your local law enforcement if you live elsewhere.
