WALNUT CREEK, CALIFORNIA – Kim Kardashian, a giant of the reality TV and fashion world, has a massively popular clothing line.
And its newest store will be a true giant, taking over multiple storefronts at Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek.
The City of Walnut Creek is currently reviewing a commercial design application for a new SKIMS retail store at 1275 Broadway Plaza (Suites D27 & D30). The city listing shows the project as “Under Review” and describes it as a design review for a new retail store.

That’s the space that previously housed Makers Market, which is now located in Lafayette, as well as Janie and Jack, and perhaps also Sur La Table.
SKIMS began as a direct-to-consumer shapewear and loungewear brand and has been steadily expanding into physical retail in recent years. SKIMS has been growing its brick-and-mortar footprint and pursuing additional store openings.
It’s also worth noting that SKIMS is already sold through select Nordstrom locations — including the Nordstrom at Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek, which is right next door to the proposed new space — but a dedicated storefront would be a bigger, standalone bet on Walnut Creek shoppers.
SKIMS is closely tied to Kim Kardashian because it is her company — she co-founded the brand in 2019 alongside Jens Grede and Emma Grede, and it has been positioned from the start as a “solutions” underwear/shapewear line built around Kardashian’s own product preferences and mass-audience reach.
In interviews, CEO Jens Grede has described Kardashian as deeply involved day-to-day and a key creative force behind the product and brand experience, not just a licensing-style celebrity name on the label.
We’re not sure if Kardashian herself would appear in order to open the store. But it’s clearly quite directly linked to her personal brand.
So, timeline. Again, the new SKIMS store is in the planning process, so construction hasn’t even been approved yet. That means it will take a while to show up.
