Moraga’s Favorite Equestrian Store Just Closed Forever

MORAGA, CALIFORNIA – It always delighted me, and said something about Moraga, that next to the glitzy new Starbucks drive-thru and Bank of America, you could find a saddle store.

Not just saddles, either. Moraga’s favorite equestrian store apparently sold everything you needed to properly attire yourself and your horse for riding–blankets, boots, helmets, the whole 9 yards.

Now, sadly, this store is no more.

Dover Saddlery’s Moraga store at 444 Center St. has closed permanently, according to a closure notice posted by the company for the location.

In the message, store manager Randi Tepley told customers the decision was difficult and thanked the community for years of support, adding that Dover will continue serving riders through its website and other store locations.

The closure date was Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, per the same notice.

Since opening in Moraga in 2015, the shop built a reputation as a reliably stocked English-riding tack and apparel destination.

Dover’s closure notice directs customers to shop online at DoverSaddlery.com or visit other Dover stores. It also comes amid other recent Dover store closures in California, including the Sacramento location, which posted a similar permanent-closure notice dated Jan. 18, 2026.

There are still a handful of equestrian retailers and service-focused tack options in the broader region. Moraga-based EQ Saddle Science, for example, lists an address on Rheem Boulevard in town. And Arney’s Crow Canyon Saddlery in Castro Valley is another established option in the East Bay.

Because the Bay Area Telegraph does not actually own a horse, we cannot vouch for the quality of these other spots. But at least know they’re (apparently) there.

For riders, the loss of Dover is surely concerning. And for casual observers like ourselves, it’s sad to see a little more of the Bay Area’s rural character quietly slip away.
