Young Motorcyclist Killed in Tragic I680 Crash

CONCORD, CALIFORNIA – A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed Friday evening (Feb. 20, 2026) in a crash on northbound Interstate 680 near the State Route 242 connection in Pleasant Hill, prompting a major lane closure during the evening commute.

According to a report citing the California Highway Patrol response, the collision happened on northbound I-680 just south of SR-242. CHP officers shut down the four northbound lanes at about 6:19 p.m. as they investigated.

The same report said several vehicles behind the motorcycle were struck by debris and became disabled.

A third-party CHP incident-feed site also logged the fatality at about 6:19 p.m. on Feb. 20 and described a motorcycle and rider in a travel lane.

Friends and family identified the rider as Mohammad Erfan, 21.

A GoFundMe fundraiser created to help his family says Erfan was the only son of parents who immigrated from Afghanistan, and that donations will go toward funeral expenses.

The freeway location described in the initial report is Pleasant Hill near SR-242. The GoFundMe fundraiser describes the fatal motorcycle accident as occurring in Concord and lists the date as 02/21/2026.

Those can both be true in practice: the I-680/SR-242 area sits right on the Pleasant Hill-Concord border, and families sometimes cite the nearest city or the date they were notified/when the loss was formally recorded. As of now, we have not seen an official CHP press release publicly reconciling the city/date details.

CHP’s investigation was still ongoing in the immediate aftermath, and no official cause has been released publicly in the sources available so far.
