The Fate of a Generation-Old Lafayette Pizza Spot is Uncertain

Lafayette, California – A staple of the casual Lafayette pizza scene appears to be closed. We don’t know what its long-term fate will be.

Weeks ago, we noticed that not much was going on at the downtown Lafayette location of Round Table Pizza. Previously, signs on the front had announced a new salad bar, but we didn’t see folks coming in and out of the restaurant.

Now, readers are writing in to tell us that it seems to be closed down.

One reader wrote in to say: “I walked by Round Table this AM-there are no signs, but the place has been decimated. Table tops are gone, the booths have been torn apart, and pizza pans were stacked in plastic bins. It is definitely empty! Maybe a remodel? One can only hope.”

Checking online business listings, it appears that the Round Table Pizza is listed as closed. Some places identify the closure as permanent.

That said–and as our reader suggests–we don’t yet know whether this is the final end. Round Table as a chain has struggled. Certainly, there have been some closures both in the Bay Area and more broadly in California.

On the other hand, though, some locations are simply closing down in order to remodel. We’re still holding out a bit of hope that that could be the case in Lafayette.

We’ve reached out to Round Table itself but have not yet heard back with a comment.

Although it’s a chain, the local location of Round Table Pizza appears to have been serving Lafayette since 1992. That means it’s a common staple for people who want casual pizza for kids, birthday parties, picnics in the park, and the like, and it’s served that role for a generation.

It will be missed if it has indeed closed. We observed a similar pattern with Kacha Thai in Walnut Creek. They initially closed down temporarily and then announced that the closure was permanent. Again, we hope that’s not the case with Round Table!

For those seeking other pizza options in Lafayette—either in the interim or long-term if this does turn out to be a permanent closure—you can head to Pizza Antica up the road or Sliver over in Fiesta Square.
