PLEASANT HILL, CALIFORNIA – A new sushi restaurant is officially on the way to downtown Pleasant Hill, and a recent visit to the space by the Bay Area Telegraph confirms it is really happening.
When we stopped by, the storefront at 2375 Contra Costa Blvd., Suite A had an ABC public notice posted on the door.

That’s generally a sign that a new restaurant is coming. And with a little research, it’s easy to find out what the restaurant will be.
Mizu Sushi is coming to the spot on a prominent corner in downtown Pleasant Hill.

That lines up with earlier public materials from Downtown Pleasant Hill, which listed “Mizu Sushi” as a coming-soon tenant in Suite 16A, a 2,604-square-foot space. The center’s current online map also now includes “Mizu Sushi Bar & Grill” in the directory.

The former K-Street Food space is being transformed
The old K-Street Food branding is still visible on the windows and inside the restaurant, but the posted ABC paperwork and visible construction activity show the space is actively being converted into a new restaurant.
Work is underway, but there still seems to be lots to do. I poked my head in the door, and the tables inside are still in pieces.

There was also a big truck pumping out the kitchen area, probably to prepare a fryer from a previous restaurant for the new tenant.

From the outside, the location sits right in the downtown Pleasant Hill center along Contra Costa Boulevard. Inside, the restaurant appears to have a long bar or sushi-counter setup, booth seating, and a fairly modern interior already taking shape. It looks like a substantial sit-down restaurant rather than a tiny quick-service spot.

What Mizu is at its other locations
Based on Mizu’s official website, Pleasant Hill appears to be joining an existing small California chain rather than getting a one-off independent concept.

Mizu says it first opened in San Jose in 2009, and its Mountain View page describes that restaurant as the company’s third Mizu Sushi Bar & Grill and its second Bay Area location. The company has also referenced a Tustin location in Orange County on its careers and older promotional pages.

On its official pages, Mizu emphasizes traditional nigiri and signature rolls, but also says it offers kitchen dishes like teriyaki, Korean BBQ, skewers, and other grilled items.

Its published menu in Mountain View suggests Pleasant Hill diners could eventually see a fairly broad lineup if the new location follows the same playbook: cucumber salad, sashimi salad, miso soup, bento boxes, tartars, crudo, carpaccio, tempura, rolls, and various cooked entrées. The menu also points to a more polished, modern sushi-bar style than a bare-bones takeout operation.

Mizu’s arrival is notable on its own, but it also fits into a broader Japanese-food expansion in Pleasant Hill. Downtown Pleasant Hill is also preparing for Osaka Marketplace, the large Japanese grocery and food-hall concept planned for the same center. Public materials for the center list Osaka as a coming-soon anchor tenant.

That means Pleasant Hill could soon have not just a big Japanese market destination, but also another full-service sushi restaurant in the same downtown district.

What still has not been publicly clarified is Mizu’s opening date, final menu for Pleasant Hill, or whether this location will match the full “Mizu Sushi Bar & Grill” concept used elsewhere.
