PLEASANTON, CALIFORNIA – A 19-year-old Pleasanton man has been arrested in an investigation into dozens of commercial burglaries across three Bay Area counties, including the destructive Sept. 10 spree that struck businesses throughout Pleasanton.
Juan Luis Valdez-Luevano was taken into custody Sept. 16 at the Alameda County Probation Office in Dublin, shortly before he was scheduled to meet with his probation officer, according to a San Ramon Police Department announcement.
Officers from San Ramon and Dublin made the arrest on a warrant obtained in Contra Costa County. At roughly the same time, investigators from San Ramon and Pleasanton served search warrants on Valdez-Luevano’s vehicle and his home on Vineyard Avenue in Pleasanton.
Police said they recovered evidence from both locations that they believe is connected to the burglaries. Authorities have not publicly described that evidence.
Arrest Follows Major Pleasanton Burglary Spree
The arrest came six days after burglars swept through several Pleasanton shopping centers during the early-morning hours of Sept. 10, smashing glass doors and windows and targeting more than two dozen businesses.
Restaurants made up many of the targets. Surveillance footage showed masked intruders entering businesses and, in at least one case, carrying away an entire cash register. Business owners reported that the cost of repairing shattered doors and windows often exceeded the amount of money taken.
Pleasanton officers spotted four suspects and attempted to stop a sedan with no license plates, but the driver fled. Police pursued the vehicle along Stanley Boulevard before ending the chase west of Highway 84 because of safety concerns, according to reporting at the time by KTVU.
Pleasanton detectives later identified Valdez-Luevano as a suspect while coordinating with nearby agencies that were investigating similar crimes. The Pleasanton Police Department said it believes the people involved in the Sept. 10 spree may also be responsible for similar burglary waves in multiple cities across at least three counties.
Before that morning, Pleasanton had recorded 18 commercial burglaries during all of 2026. At least 25 additional businesses were hit during the Sept. 10 spree, according to a subsequent account of the investigation.
Investigation Stretches Across the Bay Area
San Ramon police described the arrest as part of an ongoing investigation into dozens of commercial burglaries reported in Contra Costa, Alameda and Santa Clara counties.
The department did not release a complete list of businesses or cities allegedly connected to Valdez-Luevano. Police have confirmed that he is a suspect in several San Ramon commercial burglaries, while investigators have also been examining recent burglary sprees in Pleasanton and Danville.
Danville businesses were hit in another concentrated series earlier in September. Fourteen burglaries were reported at the Crossroads Shopping Center and along the 100 block of Hartz Avenue during the early-morning hours of Sept. 1. Authorities have not publicly established that Valdez-Luevano participated in every recent burglary spree in the region.
Valdez-Luevano was booked in Contra Costa County on multiple burglary-related charges. He also faces additional burglary allegations in Alameda County and is expected to be transferred there.
Investigators have identified additional potential suspects and are working to determine their involvement. Pleasanton police have said three other people remain under investigation in connection with the Sept. 10 spree.
San Ramon police thanked the Dublin, Pleasanton, Livermore and Milpitas police departments for assisting with the case.
