Here’s What’s Coming to the Old B of A Building Near Rossmoor

ROSSMOOR, CALIFORNIA – The former Bank of America building near Rossmoor is getting a new tenant.

Surprise! It’s…another bank!

BMO has posted “Coming Soon” signs at 1200 Rossmoor Parkway, at the corner of Tice Valley Boulevard in Walnut Creek. The signs offer a clear answer for neighbors wondering what’s next for the vacant branch.

Bay Area Telegraph reader Rod W spotted the change and sent photographs showing blue BMO graphics across the building’s entrance and windows.

“I noticed new signage on the long-empty former Bank of America branch,” Rodwrote in an October 11 email.

A New Branch Is Taking Shape

The signage is backed up by recruitment listings identifying the same address.

BMO advertised a “De Novo Retail Relationship Banker” position at 1200 Rossmoor Parkway. The listing describes a role supporting the bank’s expansion into new branches, including helping launch locations and build relationships in the community. A separate bank manager posting also identified the property.

An exact opening date for the Rossmoor Parkway branch could not be verified. The signs in Williams’ photographs say only “Coming Soon.”

BMO may already be familiar to East Bay residents through its acquisition of Bank of the West. That transaction closed in February 2023, bringing nearly 1.8 million customers into BMO and substantially expanding its Western U.S. presence.

The Property Has a Longer Planning History

The former bank site has also been the subject of city planning changes.

Walnut Creek approved a General Plan amendment and rezoning for the property in September 2025, broadening the range of businesses that could operate there.

According to the city’s environmental filing, the changes allowed uses including retail, offices and restaurants, along with potential buildings of up to two stories and 35 feet. However, that approval itself proposed no physical construction or changes to the existing building.

Some locals were probably hoping for a restaurant. The new BMO signs now identify an incoming tenant for the existing space that keeps the general character of the store the same as before.

Part of a Bigger California Expansion

The arrival comes as BMO pursues a substantial expansion across California.

In March, the bank announced plans to open more than 130 California financial centers over five years. Its announced schedule included seven California openings in 2026, with two in the Bay Area.

That announcement did not identify the Rossmoor Parkway address, so it does not establish an opening timeline for this particular branch.

For now, the visible change at the old B of A building is straightforward: BMO branding is up, and another bank is preparing to move in.
