PLEASANT HILL, CALIFORNIA — If you’ve been waiting for Pleasant Hill’s enormous new Japanese marketplace to open, there’s finally a more specific window to put on your calendar.
Osaka Marketplace is expected to open in mid-November 2026, according to a spokesperson for Downtown Pleasant Hill.
The update came after Bay Area Telegraph asked for a firmer opening date following a new announcement from the shopping center on October 19. That announcement described a fall opening, but a spokesperson got more specific, and told us “mid-November.”

That means shoppers could be browsing the new market in about a month, although again, an exact opening day has not been announced.
The marketplace will occupy more than 42,000 square feet in the former Orchard Supply Hardware space at 155 Crescent Plaza. As we previously reported, the project combines a substantial Japanese grocery store with plans for a food-hall experience.

The new announcement says shoppers can expect Japanese goods, fresh produce, specialty snacks and home essentials. Downtown Pleasant Hill marketing director Brandi Hardy said the addition would expand the center’s shopping and dining offerings while celebrating Japanese culture and food.

One of the most intriguing pieces of the project is what happens to the old hardware store’s garden center.

The City of Pleasant Hill’s original announcement described plans to turn that portion of the building into a semi-outdoor Japanese market hall with several mini restaurants. The city also outlined a grocery selection including seafood, ready-to-eat meals and imported foods and goods.
For local shoppers, that could make Osaka a place to stop for lunch as well as ingredients for dinner.
It has been a long wait. Bay Area Telegraph spotted early signage at the property in April, when the interior still had considerable work ahead.

Earlier timelines ranged from mid-2026 to November 2026. The latest update puts the expected opening in the middle of that November window.
The company is also still recruiting for Pleasant Hill. Its current jobs page lists “All Positions” under the location, with meat, fish and kitchen departments specified.

Osaka already operates stores in Fremont and Foster City, and its Fremont location includes a cafe and food court. The Pleasant Hill project would bring that combination of Japanese groceries and prepared food closer to shoppers in Central Contra Costa County.
For now, mid-November is the timeframe to watch. A specific opening date remains the next big announcement.
