Iconic Original Joe’s Restaurant Expanding to Walnut Creek. Here’s When It Opens.

Walnut Creek, CA — Original Joe’s, the iconic San Francisco restaurant, is making its way to the East Bay. The Italian-American eatery is set to open a new location in Walnut Creek next year, marking its first expansion into the East Bay in its 87-year history.

The restaurant will open at 1300 S Main Street, the former site of Stanford’s Restaurant and Bar, which closed in 2019. The new location, situated near Macy’s at Broadway Plaza, is currently under construction and will feature a two-story layout. The opening is anticipated between March and May 2025.

Original Joe’s first opened in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood in 1937 and has since expanded to Daly City’s Westlake neighborhood and San Francisco’s North Beach at 601 Union Street. The restaurant is known for its classic Italian-American dishes.

The Walnut Creek expansion was first announced on Original Joe’s Instagram account in February 2023. The restaurant group also owns Little Original Joe’s, with locations in West Portal and the Marina district of San Francisco, as well as Elena’s Mexican Restaurant, which opened in West Portal earlier this year.
