Authorities Have Released An Update on The Terrifying Fire at Martinez Refinery
Martinez, CA – The fire at Martinez Refining Company (MRC) has been brought under control as of Sunday morning, with MRC and Mutual Aid Firefighters remaining on-site to manage the situation.
While the immediate danger has subsided, Contra Costa Health (CCH) has lifted its Shelter-in-Place Order but maintains a Public Health Advisory for Martinez, parts of Pacheco, and Clyde.
Residents, especially those with respiratory sensitivities, are advised to stay indoors until the advisory is lifted. Air quality has improved enough that Community Warning System sirens have stopped sounding, but officials will reassess the need for the advisory on Sunday morning.
Six individuals were evaluated by medical personnel due to the incident, and all have since been released.
MRC has set up a claims line for community concerns related to the fire. Residents can call 800-542-7113 and provide their contact information along with a description of their issue.
The refinery has acknowledged the disruption caused by the incident, stating, “We apologize to our community for the disruption and concern we have caused.” Further updates will be posted on MRC’s social media and website. Community inquiries can also be directed to 925-313-3601.
