Fiery Tesla Crash Kills Man in Walnut Creek on Saturday

Walnut Creek, CA – A man died early Saturday morning after his Tesla crashed and caught fire on Ygnacio Valley Road.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:40 a.m. on April 19, 2025, in the eastbound lanes of Ygnacio Valley Road between North Main Street and North California Boulevard. The vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a tree just west of North Main Street before catching fire, trapping the driver inside. The adult male driver, who was the sole occupant, died at the scene.

Walnut Creek Police Department Public Information Officer Lt. Holley Connors told the SF Chronicle that investigators are working to determine whether the Tesla’s self-driving mode was active at the time of the crash. Further details are being withheld pending notification of the driver’s next of kin.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Walnut Creek Police Department at (925) 943‑5844 or the anonymous tip line at (925) 943‑5865.
