All Aboard! Walnut Creek Model Railroad Society Unveils Its 2025 Public-Show Schedule

If you’ve ever wanted to see 4,300 square feet of miniature mountains, working signals, and freight trains threading through walnut groves, mark your calendar now. The Walnut Creek Model Railroad Society (WCMRS) has released its full lineup of 2025 public “Train Shows,” giving rail fans a chance to watch the club’s legendary Diablo Valley Lines layout in action.

Monthly open houses

Beginning in January 2025, the society will open its doors roughly once a month at its clubhouse in Larkey Park (2751 Buena Vista Ave.). Saturday “daylight” sessions run 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Friday-night shows feature dramatic dusk-to-dawn lighting cycles from 8 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Key 2025 dates

Here’s the schedule for 2025:

The big one: nine-day Holiday Show

WCMRS’s marquee event returns Nov 21–30, 2025, stretching across Thanksgiving week with both afternoon and evening sessions. Expect extra trains on the rails, seasonal scenery, and lines out the door.

Admission & details

  • Adults: $5.00
  • Seniors (65+) & kids 6-12: $3.00
  • Children under 6: Free
  • Payment: Cash, credit, or debit accepted

Limited parking is available in the Larkey Park lot; overflow visitors should use Buena Vista Avenue or First Street side parking and follow signs to the clubhouse entrance.

What makes the layout special?

  • Hundreds of scale-mile mainline with computer-controlled dispatching
  • Working signals & sound effects that mimic modern railroading
  • Hand-built scenery portraying Mt. Diablo, a Central Valley farm district, and a spiral tunnel modeled after Tehachapi Loop

Whether you’re a foam-board hobbyist, a parent hunting for a rainy-day outing, or just someone who likes the soothing rumble of a passing freight, the Walnut Creek Model Railroad Society has a date—and a train—waiting for you in 2025.
