16 Year Old Dead, Several Injured in Fiery Walnut Creek Crash
A 16-year-old has tragically died and several other passengers have been seriously injured in a multiple-vehicle accident that happened on Ygnacio Valley Road near Oak Grove Road in Walnut Creek, California, this weekend.
Details are still coming in, but three vehicles reportedly collided on Ygnacio Valley Road, near the shopping center with Safeway and Whole Foods in Walnut Creek on August 9. One reader shared that the crash happened up the road by the Lime Ridge Sign.
One of the vehicles, reportedly a Prius, caught fire.
A Clayton reader wrote in to the Bay Area Telegraph to share this account of the crash:
A “Prius was traveling down the hill on the other side of Ygnacio and swerved across the center divider to t-bone a white SUV, flipping it over.
The third car, also an SUV did not come in contact with either of the other two cars. The driver saw the Prius crossing the center divider and swerved up on the center divider just as the Prius was flipping the other car.
The driver of the third car, a nurse, cared for the first passenger pulled from the Prius while other drivers struggled to get the other two from the Prius. They were only successful in getting the 14-year-old passenger out of the Prius.”
One person was pronounced dead at the scene as medical crews arrived in a helicopter, which reportedly landed on the road. The deceased was reportedly a 16-year-old. A 14-year-old was also apparently transported to Children’s Hospital in Oakland with serious injuries.
Ambulances took other crash victims to John Muir Medical Center just up the road. The other victims are reportedly in stable condition.
The area was reportedly shut down for hours following the crash, with stuck drivers crossing the median divider to turn around.
When we read about the crash here at the Bay Area Telegraph, we were saddened, but also sadly not surprised to hear that it had occurred near the Oak Grove Road and Ygnacio Valley Road intersection. This area has been the scene of several fatal crashes over the last few years, leading locals to demand change.

As we reported earlier this year, a pedestrian was killed at the intersection, and its tricky multiple-way turns and fast speeds (including on the approaches to the intersection) have claimed other lives in the past.
This is a developing story, and authorities haven’t yet shared too many details or made many statements about it. We will be following this tragic story closely. Make sure to join our free 925 News newsletter so we can keep you updated.
