CONCORD, CALIFORNIA – Concord’s beloved hillside amphitheater is turning 50, and it’s throwing itself a party worthy of the milestone. On Sunday, Oct. 19, 2025, the Toyota Pavilion at Concord will host the Big Blues Bash, an all-day festival from noon to 7 pm marking the venue’s golden anniversary with a lineup packed with guitar heroes and soulful singers.
Proceeds benefit Blue Bear School of Music and the Jeffrey Marshall Arts Foundation.
Headliners include Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Elvin Bishop, Bay Area favorite Tommy Castro, virtuoso Chris Cain, rising star DK Harrell, Australian shredder Taj Farrant, and genre-blending ace Ana Popovic. The day also promises local and youth performers, including Blue Bear All-Star teen bands, plus hosting by Dan Ashley and Mickel London.
The anniversary concert caps a season of birthday reflections for the venue, which opened in May 1975 and quickly became one of the Bay Area’s most scenic places to see live music. The amphitheater was designed by architect Frank Gehry with landscape architect Peter Walker, and today holds about 12,500 fans beneath its signature canopy and lawn.
From day one, the Pavilion punched above its weight. The inaugural show in 1975 was a benefit headlined by composer Henry Mancini with jazz great Sarah Vaughan, setting a high bar for the next half-century of bookings. Through the years, everyone from Frank Sinatra to Tina Turner has taken the Concord stage, cementing the venue’s status as a summertime rite for East Bay music lovers.
If the name sounds slightly different, that’s because the venue adopted its current moniker in 2023, when the Northern California Toyota Dealers Association bought naming rights. The City of Concord owns the facility and Live Nation operates it; the renaming arrived just in time for the 50th-anniversary season.
Blue Bear School of Music, the nonprofit founded in 1971, says the Bash will help fund programs that put instruments and instruction in the hands of students across the Bay Area. The school’s own all-star youth bands are slated to perform during the day, a fitting touch for a birthday party that celebrates both the Pavilion’s past and the next generation of local musicians.
