Cost Plus World Market Is About to Open a Huge 17k SqFt Store in the 925

DUBLIN, CALIFORNIA — Cost Plus World Market is bringing its distinctive mix of international snacks, furniture, home decor and unusual gifts to a new location in the 925, just in time for the holiday shopping season.

The retailer has announced that its newest East Bay store will officially open Friday, November 20, at 9 a.m., at Hacienda Crossings in Dublin.

The 17,310-square-foot store is located at 4906 Dublin Boulevard, taking over space previously occupied by outdoor retailer Any Mountain and DB Shoes.

Free Gifts and a Holiday Scavenger Hunt

According to the Dublin Chamber of Commerce’s official grand opening announcement, festivities will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:45 a.m. on Friday, November 20.

The store will open to shoppers at 9 a.m.

During the opening weekend, the first 200 customers each day will receive a free World Market tote bag. The promotion runs Friday, November 20, through Sunday, November 22.

There’s also an opportunity to win prizes.

World Market will host its Golden Santa Scavenger Hunt through Sunday, November 29. Shoppers who successfully locate a hidden Golden Santa could instantly win $20, $50 or $100.

The holiday-themed promotion gives customers another reason to explore the store’s aisles during its first days in business.

What’s Inside the New World Market?

World Market is unusual among national retailers because it combines several shopping experiences under one roof.

Part furniture store, part home decor boutique and part international specialty grocery, the chain is known for merchandise sourced from across the globe.

Shoppers can expect a selection of furniture, lighting, rugs, throw pillows, kitchen accessories, dinnerware, seasonal decorations and gifts.

The food department is another major draw.

World Market stores carry an assortment of international chocolates, cookies, candies, sauces, coffee, tea, snacks and pantry items that can be difficult to find at conventional grocery stores.

The selection is particularly appealing during the holidays, when the retailer typically features festive treats and giftable food products from around the world.

The company’s official Dublin store page highlights globally inspired furniture, international food and drinks, home decor and kitchen essentials.

Part of a Bigger Transformation at Hacienda Crossings

The new World Market is also the latest addition to Hacienda Crossings, the large shopping and entertainment center along Dublin Boulevard.

As Bay Area Telegraph previously reported in July, the shopping center has been welcoming a wave of new businesses.

Other announced additions have included Sana’a Cafe, 88 Cardhouse, Sally Beauty, Jamba and Miniso.

World Market joins an established mix of retail, dining and entertainment destinations at Hacienda Crossings, including Regal Cinemas, Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Old Navy and several restaurants.

The new store also expands World Market’s presence in the East Bay.

The chain already operates a location at The Veranda in Concord, as well as a store in Oakland.

A Retailer With Bay Area Roots

Although World Market operates stores across the United States, the company’s history actually began in the Bay Area.

The retailer traces its origins to 1958, when it started as a small import business at Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco.

Originally known as Cost Plus Imports, the company built its identity around imported merchandise and unusual finds from overseas.

Over the decades, it expanded into a nationwide retail chain, eventually becoming known as Cost Plus World Market and, more recently, simply World Market.

The company is now headquartered in Alameda.

Its Dublin opening brings another chapter of that history to the East Bay, nearly seven decades after the original San Francisco store opened.
