A gigantic new Japanese market is coming soon to Emeryville, California, and we finally have an opening date–read on for details!
Tokyo Central Market was announced earlier this year. The Japanese superstore will feature 40,000 ft² of grocery and restaurant space, including new rooftop parking.
It will be coming to Bay Street Emeryville, which we’ve visited and written about before.

Some things to expect there include fresh sushi, sashimi, and bento boxes, as well as Japanese snacks like ramen, pantry items, and more.
There will also be a healthy selection of Japanese beer, sake, and other beverages.

No details yet on the specifics, but the market will also feature an “upscale Japanese restaurant,” according to statements from the company behind it. Tokyo Central has its origins in Japan and is operated by a Japanese parent company.

There are many of these Japanese-style supermarkets and food halls in the SoCal area; this is the first major one to come to this part of the East Bay.

So, when will Tokyo Central Market open? According to an Instagram post from Bay Street Emeryville, the official opening date will be Saturday, January 31, 2026.
There will be major celebrations for the whole opening weekend. Make sure to join our free 925 News newsletter so we can keep you updated as soon as we know more about those specifics.
It’s extremely exciting—the opening of this new market is only a few months away.
