A fatal crash on Crow Canyon Road in San Ramon left one person dead Saturday evening and closed a major East Bay cut-through route in both directions while police investigated.
San Ramon police said the collision happened on Crow Canyon Road between Bollinger Canyon Road and Norris Canyon Road. A city traffic advisory posted after 4 pm warned drivers that the stretch was shut down in both directions for a collision investigation and urged motorists to avoid the area.
Crow Canyon Road has drawn safety concerns for years, especially on the more rural segments between San Ramon and Castro Valley, where CHP has repeatedly warned commuters not to use it as a high-speed shortcut and has written hundreds of tickets to drivers trying to bypass closure signs.
